The GMP created three different media outlets: Hellbender Press, a free regional environmental newspaper, an accompanying Web site, and sponsorship of Sunday morning alternative radio on 90.3 FM focusing on issues of social, racial, and environmental justice that included thought-provoking commentary from FGS board member and environmental philosopher John Nolt. The paper served as a forum for those who would otherwise have no voice, and as an advertising alternative for small business in the area.
As the Internet became increasingly popular as a source of timely information, the Hellbender Press suffered the same fate as many other newspapers. Advertising declined and fewer writers were interested in volunteering articles. After 11 years, Hellbender Press published its last issue in the winter of 2009.
