Business
General discussion developed regarding the problem of finances. "KEVP will cost money at some point. But, hopefully there will be a time that the industrial world realizes massively what we are advocating. When this country decides it is ready to do something it happens. Therefore, we have to act as if we already have the money." Gene: "It might be possible to get seed money through FGS. We have to come up with a good proposal, become accepted officially by the FGS Board for using the 501c3 status, write proposals to fundraisers, etc. Danny: We need to first focus on studying other Ecovillages within a similar context, such as Davis California, Los Angeles, etc. We don't want to reinvent the wheel."
For now, the main goal of the KEVP seems to be to educate our immediate environment about the concept. We can not built a dream without spreading a vision first! An educational presentation needs to be set up that clarifies the goals and aims of the project. We need to present at for example Dogwood Arts Festival, Earth Day Celebrations, Ijams stuff, SPEAK, etc. A scrapbook with articles and information concerning the concept, as well as a brochure that explains KEVP should be made. Gene agreed to write the text for a brochure, Richard agreed to edit the material.
Further, articles can be written in Newspapers and Magazines, etc.
Vegetarian Society
Karen Lacey has made contact with the Vegetarian Society and reserved a booth at the Thanksgiving Dinner, Sunday Nov. 23, 5.15 p.m.
The group brainstormed about what the content of the booth could be;
¥ Brochure (Gene, Richard)
¥ 3 minute video from the Ecovillage Network (Gene has movie, D&C will provide VCR+TV)
¥ if possible a 15 minute talk + discussion?
¥ sign up list (Danny)
¥ Co-housing examples/display (Rebekah)
Vestal Neighborhood Presentation
Margaret Held from the Vestal Neighborhood could unfortunately not make it to the meeting. Her presentation will hopefully be rescheduled.
Agreed is to meet with her Tuesday November 11th at 2:00 in Vestal. She will show us the site.
Please attend! Rebekah will gather further information about this.
Next meeting: November 10
Will Kidd will talk about the Natural Step. The Natural Step states 4 systems conditions which give businesses a framework for long term strategic sustainable development. The Ecovillage concept could possibly use and integrate such a philosophy into its main structure.
